The story of Misfit tells the story of Julia, a Latin American teenager living in the United States, a successful YouTuber and one of the most popular girls at her school. But that dream world changes when her family returns to their home country of Ecuador, and Julia must adapt to new customs and a very different culture, as well as earn the respect of her new classmates. Julia will find herself involved in numerous diverse situations at her new Latin American high school, where she will discover the importance of knowing her origins.
Misfit features a renowned national and international cast, including Alicia Jaziz and Gimena Gómez from Mexico; Julián Cerati and Mica Suárez from Argentina; Javi Luna from Spain; Raysa Ortiz from Peru; and Giselle Torres from the United States.
The film is directed by Orlando Herrera and is the second production from 2bOriginals, our original content production company, following the success of “Dedicada a mi ex.”
Misfit is an adaptation of the Dutch film of the same name, released in 2017, which became the third highest-grossing film in the Netherlands that year. The original film, produced by NewBe and Splendid Films, has been adapted in five countries, making it the Dutch film with the most remakes in history. With this Latin American version, it has won the love of a very different audience than the Dutch one: Latin America. The film’s success is largely due to a strategy that blends traditional production with new digital talent, one of 2bOriginals’ hallmarks.
